While we were up in DC, Sean and I were invited to go to the Haunted Forest with some friends. Typically, I’m really not the haunted house type of girl (mostly I think they are lame and not scary), but this was seriously so much fun! It was this whole haunted trail set in the woods. The trails ran through the forest and were so dark that you could hardly see where you were going. To make it better, people were hiding along the path, behind trees, and some were even hiding in the trees. Can I tell you how creepy it is to randomly have something grab your ankle or touch your head when you can’t see it! And lets be honest, no one likes to be chased by the chainsaw or axe guy, right Maeve? The whole thing was just freaky but we can’t wait to do it again. Thank you Lindsay and Justin for inviting us!

A little Sneak Peak...

My sister is going to be part of a craft fare. I'm way bummed because I won't get to go. :( I randomly came across this website which showed a "sneak peak" of some of the fun things this craft show will have. It just happened to be the same one that my sister is going to be part of. It also showed one of my sister's items (the apron at the left...don't you just love a good apron?!) I was way excited. She is one of the most talented people I know! So, for all of you who will lucky enough to be in Vegas durning the 20th-22nd of November, you must go!

I miss my family so much! I just can't wait to see them! Can you tell....?

How's Work?

So working in an ER is always full of exciting stories, especially when the ER is a level 1 trauma center. It never ceases to amaze me the way people get hurt (It amazes me even more what people live through)! However, while traumas are really exciting, my other patients are always good for a little laugh. Here are just a few stories for the week... (keep in mind that my hospital is inner-city and racially diverse :)

1. An 86 year old women came in complaining of chest pain. Like most 86 year old women, she wore the traditional nylon stockings, old women shoes, hot pink lip stick, and fake pearls.... are you getting the picture? Well, turns out she was having a heart attack, but at 86, that can be expected. However, on a routine urine drug screen, our little feeble 86 year old woman tested positive for cocaine. (for those who don't know, cocaine can cause heart attacks, we call this Crack-i-cardia) HA HA, COCAINE at 86! Can you believe it! Well, to make this story even better, our 86 year old lady also tested positive for STD's...Yikes! Does that create a bad image or what?!

2. A 20 year old girl comes into the ER for complaints of abdominal pain. She is the mother of 4 children with her youngest baby only 4 months old. Crazy huh..! Well, as part of the routine questions, I asked this girl when her last cycle was and if there was a possibility that she could be pregnant. She says, "Oh absolutely not! I'm a virgin!" Well like most of you, I was confused. You don't have 4 children at the age of 20 and say your a virgin. So I say, "Oh I'm sorry, I thought you said you have 4 kids..." She then replies in an annoyed tone, "Uhh, I'm a born-again virgin, duh! haha, oh so sorry!

3. A 46 year old man comes in complaining of foot pain. He also has a history of diabetes. (For those who don't know, people with diabetes are prone to foot problems and infections. For this reason, many diabetics will end up with feet being amputated) As part of the examination, we have the man take off his shoes and socks. Don't worry, his right foot was so infected that it had turned black. It also had a huge gaping whole by the toes with green drainage seeping out. To make it even better, he had maggots (yep, little bugs) crawling out of his foot wound! Anyone hungry?

Proud to be an American!

Since today is the anniversary of September 11th, I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the blessings of freedom. I am grateful for all those people who give their lives protecting my rights, liberties, and family. I truly think it a blessing to be part of this country. Also, I'm curious... where was everyone when they first found out about the Twin Towers? I was coming out of seminary and Eryn Pictum (now Van Beveren) told me.

Botanical Gardens

Here are a few pictures of our trip to the Botanical Gardens. It was just a beautiful afternoon. I love getting to spend time with Sean. He makes me laugh so much!

Does the resemblance scare anyone besides me?

You can't see them but there were butterflies everywhere. It was so fun!

Isn't Racial Profiling Illegal?

So, let's talk... I love Walmart! (not as much as Target but that's a different story) It's possibly a little weird how much I like Walmart, but something about it is so strangely comforting. Maybe it's the cheap food or the toothless grin of the cashier. Maybe it's the picketers out front or the smokers laugh that fills the air. Either way I like it because no matter how many days I have gone without a shower, I can still go to Walmart and find someone more white trash than myself. However, lately I've been feeling a little discriminated against. It seems that every time I go to leave Walmart, an employee stops me and asks for my receipt on the way out. Now this wouldn't be weird if I was at Sam's Club or Costco, but it's WALMART. I'm trying to convince myself that this isn't happening just because I'm white but the evidence is not in my favor. In fact, this last time, a black man walked out right next to me with a brand new flat screen TV and no one checked him! In fact, I've never seen anyone else's receipt get checked. Clearly i missed the memo on how to spot a shop lifter. The list down here in Norfolk must go something like this...... White (Check), Paid cash without the use of food stamps (check), No gold caps on the teeth (check), No baby daddy names tattooed on the arm (check), and no fake finger nails or hair ( double check)...... clearly I fit the profile! :)
